The Indian Ocean Commission (IOC), a regional organisation created by the "Accord de Cooperation de Victoria" in 1984, consists of five member countries: the Comoros Islands, France (Reunion Island), Madagascar, Mauritius and the Seychelles. Its main objective is the promotion of sustainable co-development of the islands located in the south-west of the Indian Ocean which it defends in international forums on matters pertaining to ecology, economy and culture. It develops activities in the economic sector (consideration of the region in the world economy), in the environmental field (namely marine and coastal) , on animal and vegetal resources, in the protection of populations (social security, children`s rights, public health) and finally in the cooperation of cultural, academic and research works.
